Sushma Shrestha is a conservation scientist with interests in biodiversity conservation, climate change and sustainability research and policy. She has research expertise in social-ecological systems, natural-social knowledge integration, indigenous peoples and local communities governance of land and resources, participatory landscape-natural resource mapping, and botanical-ethnobotanical survey. She holds a Ph.D. in Biology from Miami University, focusing on biodiversity conservation and livelihood strategies of indigenous Himalayan communities of Nepal.

A native of Nepal, Sushma comes from Newari Ethnic community and speaks six languages and has conducted research in Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic. She is a serious landscape gardener advocating native planting and conservation of local flora to support biodiversity.
